Blue Box Group is a Carbon Neutral Business

It has become well know that we all have a “carbon footprint” from the carbon dioxide we release when we drive, flick on the light switch, or hop in a plane. All of us at Blue Box Group believe in providing more incentives for research and development in renewable energy and taking responsibility for the environmental impact created by our business. In recent EPA report prepared for Congress, it was noted that in 2006, Data Centers were responsible for 1.5% of National US Energy Consumption and that this usage pattern is rising.

Blue Box has partnered with The Climate Trust, a non profit organization located in Portland, OR to offset our carbon emissions from both our office, employee transportation, and our data center. The Climate Trust funds a large number of renewal energy projects and initiatives designed to reduce the carbon footprint of sponsoring businesses. Blue Box Group is proud to be a supporter The Climate Trust’s model. CEO Jesse Proudman explained, “The IT industry is an immense consumer of energy. From powering our servers to cooling down our data center environment, this industry uses an exorbinatly high amount of electricity every day. Our partnership with The Climate Trust allows us to continue to run our operation while knowing that the power we’re using isn’t contributing to the global carbon excess.”

Blue Box Group was the first Rails oriented hosting provider to institute a carbon management policy, and will continue to make every effort to lead this industry as new options become available. We continue to look for future opportunities we may take as a business to reduce our ecological footprint. If you have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d love to hear your thoughts.
