This morning’s maintenance window was a success besides the fact that we managed to purge our system status blog of articles. The stats task was unable to be completed tonight and will be pushed into another window. vsh13 had an unexpected shut down issue and spent some time checking its file system. As of 5am, all services are 100% back online.

Our mail server was stopped and restarted at 8:50pm this evening. No mail was lost, but some mail that was marked as deleted or read may show up as new. We appologize for the trouble.

During this maintenance window on 9/27 staring at 11pm, we will be migrating our stats server over to much newer hardware. Stats will be unavailable for most of the evening and reporting will be delayed through Friday as the server catches up on old data.
Update 09/28/2007 - We are actually going to revamp our stats server migration plan and do this a different way that shouldn’t require us to pull the server offline. We will keep this blog updated with that process.

Postini, the Spam and Virus filtering service we use, has been having some problems with their web front end. This is making access for customers to their email quarantines slow. Postini has acknowledged the issue. Below is the notice from Postini:
(Last updated 8:15 AM PDT, Monday 24 Sep).
We are currently experiencing difficulties with users’ access to the Administration Console and Message Center, and delayed delivery of the quarantine summaries. Also, users have found a time lag between when notifications are received, and when quarantined messages are available in the Message Center or Administration Console.
Our production teams are working to resolve these issues, which are of the highest priority. To address the current conditions in our production systems, we will be taking the following steps between Sunday and Tuesday, September 23-25
The “Delete All” button has been temporarily removed from the Message Center. Quarantined messages continue to be automatically deleted after 14 days, and you can delete selected messages as usual.
Catchall users (a legacy feature available to some customers) no longer have quarantine summaries delivered. Quarantined messages continue to be available for viewing and delivery through the Message Center and Administration Console.
We more aggressively filter and bounce messages associated with specific emerging spam attacks and threats. The filters for these attacks are tuned to assure the lowest risks of false positives.
We have scheduled a series of short maintenance events. During these events, access to the Administration Console and Message Center will be temporarily unavailable. Mail flow and filtering will continue as normal:
- Monday 5:00-7:00 PM PDT, September 24
- Tuesday 5:00-7:00 PM PDT, September 25
Please note: There is no impact to your inbound and outbound mail flow, message archiving or encryption, or to the effectiveness of your spam and virus protection. We will post status updates on the Support Portal. We sincerely appreciate your patience during this time.
Update Tuesday 10:43am - Postini has implemented a few performance updates to its interface that should allow improved access to the web interfaces. They will continue to work on this issue all week until access is restored 100%.
